School/Educational Visits
An interesting and fun way to learn about Birds of Prey and Falconry
We work in schools with children and adults and have put together interesting programmes and talks which go into details about the birds and their habitat as well as the history of falconry and what we can do to protect these birds in the future. We bring along a variety of birds including a friendly Owl, Kestrel and Hawk, and you are guaranteed an interesting and enjoyable experience for pupils and teachers alike!
Our lessons are given in English for schools wanting to improve their students' English language skills or lessons can be given in a combination of both Polish and English languages depending on your preferences.
We can discuss ideas with you to determine an agenda to fit in with your curriculum, or we can decide for you based on the sudents' ages, whichever you prefer. (With more than a decade's experience with birds of prey we're sure to be able to cover whichever topics interest you.)
Hawk Talk Walk can cover subjects such as Owl Babies for the younger years and, as we progress, up to things like:
-
differences between the various birds
-
nocturnal and diurnal birds
-
the basics of falconry and how we train birds of prey
-
food and nourishment
-
anatomy and bird characteristics
-
conservation
-
falconry for humane pest control
-
We can visit you for an hour, a half day, or even a full day, and we usually bring 2-4 birds of prey with us. If possible it is advantageous for us to be located in an open area, like the school hall (or outside if the weather is good) as this provides more room for the birds. Typically our itinerary would include:
-
educational talk & presentation of the birds
-
questions and answers
-
handling
-
photographs
We bring learning to life with plenty of interaction from the birds. It makes the experience even more enjoyable if you ask the pupils to think about their questions before we arrive.
